Change PHP Version Print

  • 2

Hosting Australia servers run a default version of PHP, which has been deemed stable and secure by the server administrators.

However, there are occasions when a more current version may be required on your site perhaps for a particular plugin or theme. The same may be said for older versions being required in some circumstances.

Due to this, Hosting Australia offers the ability to change your PHP Version, on some packages.

For information on setting PHP Variables, see HERE.

Changing PHP Version via cPanel

NOTE - The below will change the PHP version for the entire cPanel. If you have an independent site or development site, that requires a newer version of PHP than other installed sites in your cPanel, we would recommend setting the newer site up as a Sub-Domain or addon domain, depending on what your scenario is. Then set the PHP version for that subdomain/addon domain as required via the MultiPHP Manager in cPanel. See THIS ARTICLE for details.

To do this, follow the below steps:

IMPORTANT- do not make this change unless you understand what impact it may have to your site.

First, you will need to have access to your cPanel. If you are not sure how to access your cPanel, CLICK HERE.

  1. From the main page in cPanel, click the MultiPHP MANAGER link. This can be found under the Software header.

  2. You will see a list of all your domains, including addon domains and subdomains. Tick the box next to the site you wish to swap the PHP Version for, see point 1 in the image below. Note down the current version somewhere, in case you experience any issues and need to change it back.

Then from the drop-down list, point 2 below, choose the relevant version.

Then click APPLY, point 3 as shown below.

  3. Allow a few seconds for the change to apply, and then thoroughly test the function of your site for any errors or issues.  Should you experience any problems, change back to the version noted in step 2 and contact Hosting Australia Support.

Please be sure to test all functions of your site, as changing the PHP version can potentially affect various aspects and functionality. If you do experience any issues, please swap back to version noted down in step 3 and contact Hosting Australia Support.
