Subdomains Print

  • 147

A subdomain will give you a page such as dev.example.com, or finances.example.com.

Subdomains are great for development sites, as it means you can create an entirely independent site under the subdomain folder, whilst leaving your current site activity.

Creating Subdomains Via cPanel

You can easily create a subdomain via cPanel. To do this, follow the below steps:

First, you will need to have access to your cPanel. If you are not sure how to access your cPanel, CLICK HERE.

  1. From the main page in cPanel, click the DOMAINS link. This can be found under the Domains heading.

  2. Click the CREATE A NEW DOMAIN button.

  3. Enter the FULL name of the subdomain in the domain field, for example dev.example.com.

  4. The "Share document root" tick box enables you to set where the files for sub domain will be stored.

You would generally untick this and manually specify a folder, or leave the default folder name, which will be the name of your sub domain - eg, dev.example.com
  5. Click SUBMIT to create the sub domain.

Please note: Package allowances will limit how many subdomains you are able to create.
