How to transfer your domain to Hosting Australia
Moving your domain to Hosting Australia lets you manage it alongside your hosting in one place. This guide explains what you need and how the process works.
Before you start
- Check the domain is unlocked. Domains are often locked against transfer by default. Unlock it in the control panel of your current registrar.
- Get your EPP code, also called an auth code or transfer code. Your current registrar issues this. The process varies by registrar, for example: How to get your EPP Codes from Google Domains
- Check the domain is eligible. Domains cannot transfer within 60 days of registration or a previous transfer, and some domains have other restrictions.
- Make sure the contact email on the domain is one you can read. Transfer confirmations go there.
- For .au domains, make sure the registrant details meet eligibility requirements: AU Domains and Trust Eligibility
How to start the transfer
- Log in to the client area and place a domain transfer order, or open a ticket and we will arrange it for you.
- Provide the domain name and the EPP code when requested.
- Approve the transfer when your current registrar emails you to confirm. Some registrars approve automatically.
What happens next
- Most .au transfers complete within a few days. International domains such as .com can take up to a week or two.
- Your website and email keep working through the transfer as long as your DNS settings remain unchanged: How do I change my Name Servers NS or DNS settings
- A transfer normally adds a year of registration to your domain.
- Once the transfer completes, your domain appears in the client area alongside your other services and renews automatically: Domain Auto Renewal
Common reasons transfers fail
- The domain was still locked.
- The EPP code was wrong or had expired.
- The transfer was not approved at the current registrar before the deadline.
- The contact email was not monitored, so the confirmation was missed.
- The domain was registered or last transferred less than 60 days ago.
