From your cPanel, you have the option to add additional domains you may own, onto your hosting account. These facilities may be limited, due to your package. If you find your account is limited, and you require a higher allowance, please upgrade your account, by contacting Hosting Australia support, or placing an upgrade order via your client area.

What Are Primary - Alias - Subdomains

Note - To configure parked and addon domains, make sure you point your nameservers to Hosting Australia on the domain that needs to be parked.

Primary Domains

This is the domain name your order was placed under, and the main domain shown in your cPanel. All the site files for this domain can be found under the public_html/ folder within the cPanel File Manager. The public_html is the folder visitors to your site will view by default, for example: If you have a file in your home directory at public_html/filename.php this would be shown to visitors as http://mydomain.com.au/filename.php)

Alias (Parked) Domains

A parked domain is an "alias" of your primary domain. Meaning it shows the same content as your primary domain, but uses a different domain name to display the site content.

Say you had the domain, acmegardenproducts.com.au, and you also own the domains acmegp.com.au and acmegardens.com.

You could add the two additional domains, as alias domains...meaning site visitors would for all intents and purposes see the either acmegp.com.au or acmegardens.com.au as the URL in the browser when navigating the site.

This can also be used to add email accounts under a different domain, for example, say you wanted to use a shorter variation of your domain name on email accounts.

To add an Alias domain, access your primary domains cPanel and choose 'Parked Domain' or 'Aliases' under the 'Domains' tab...depending on which cPanel template you have assigned.

Addon Domains

An addon is a domain name that is redirected to a subdirectory under your public_html folder. This is used if you wish to have an entirely different set of content or website on a particular domain.

Site visitors will appear to have visited an entirely different website, and there is no correlation from a visitors point of view, between your primary domain and your addon domain.

Addon domains are able to have an independent website, e-mail addresses, forwarders, databases and FTP accounts, all managed and controlled under the single cPanel account

To add an addon domain, access cPanel and select Addon Domains icon under the 'Domains' tab.

Sub Domains

A sub-domain is similar to an addon domain, but it functions under a "sub" URL from your primary domain, for example - plants.acmegardenproducts.com.au, would be a subdomain of acmegardenproducts.com.au.

Sub-domains are generally used when a page, or perhaps an e-commerce solution is related to the primary domain, but you require it to have its own dedicated address.

Subdomains can be used to create a separate website, or they can be used to redirect a user to a specific part of your primary website.

To add a sub-domain, click the 'Subdomains' icon in cPanel under the 'Domains' tab and follow the instructions on the page.
