Gmail - how to add an IMAP/POP account Print

Hosting Australia's cPanel email accounts support POP and IMAP protocols, which means you can link your HA email account, directly into Gmail should you wish. The guide below explains how to do this.

  1. Login to your Gmail account, and click the SETTINGS icon (See item #1 below), then click SEE ALL SETTINGS (#2) from the drop down list.



  2. Click the Accounts and Import tab.

    This settings screen has a few options that sound similar, that all allow you to use another email account in different ways.
    - Send mail as allows you to send mail from Gmail using another email address.
    - Check mail from other accounts links another mail account to Gmail, allowing you to check mail from that account from within Gmail.
    - Grant access to your account gives another Gmail user limited access to your mail.
  3. Click the ADD AN EMAIL ACCOUNT link.




  4. Enter your Hosting Australia email address, then click NEXT.
  5. Choose IMPORT EMAILS FROM MY OTHER ACCOUNT (POP3) and click NEXT.
  6. The next screen will present with a number of options, see below:
    • USERNAME: This is your email address, for this tutorial, we will use - john@yourdomain.com.au
    • PASSWORD: The password set on your email account.
    • POP SERVER: This is generally mail.[DOMAIN], for example, mail.yourdomain.com.au
    • PORT: Set this to 995
    • ALWAYS USE A SECURE CONNECTION (SSL)... - Set this to be ON.
      All other options can be left as they are, or changed to suit your needs. Consult Google's documentation for further info on these if needed.
  7. Click ADD ACCOUNT.
  8. You will then be prompted with a question asking if you wish to be able to send from this account too, in most cases this would be use, so please choose the YES option and click NEXT
  9. Enter your name or the name you wish to show in the next box and leave the TREAT AS AN ALIAS box ticked, click NEXT STEP.

  10. You will be presented with another screen with some options, please set as below:
    • SMTP SERVER: This will generally be mail.[DOMAIN], for example mail.yourdomain.com.au
    • PORT: Set this to 587
    • USERNAME: This is your full email address, eg john@yourdomain.com.au
    • PASSWORD: The password set on your email account.
    • SECURED CONNECTION USING TLS: Ticket/Active.

      Click ADD ACCOUNT
  11. You will then be asked to verify your account, access the email sent to you account as entered above and copy the code into the box shown below, then click VERIFY.

  12. Congratulations, your account is now setup!
