If you need to adjust how much SPAM is or isn't being filtered by SPAMProtect, you can adjust the filter thresholds. Generally, the default filters are adequate, but if you find you are seeing too much SPAM, or that emails are being filtered as SPAM incorrectly, you may need to adjust the filter thresholds up or down.
To do this:
- Access SPAMProtect (SP) Control Panel via your normal means (Or see HERE for details on how to access the Control Panel)
- From the SP Control Panel, choose FILTER SETTINGS
- On the filter settings page, you will see an option labeled "Quarantine threshold", and next to this a red slider bar and a numerical box. Set the minimum score that a message must receive in order to be classified as spam. The score ranges from 0.0 (almost certainly not spam) to 1.0 (almost certainly spam).
NOTE: The higher this is set:
- The more likely you are to receive borderline spam, eg emails that may or may not be legitimate but are hard to classify as either SPAM or verified senders.
- The less likely you are to receive emails from legitimate senders quarantined or blocked. (Incorrect tagging generally only occurs from mail senders who have not correctly set their mail server or domain verification up).
This applies to both the incoming and outgoing filters. - Adjust the setting by small increments only and then monitor over the next couple of days.
- For advice on the other settings, please contact Hosting Australia support - as they are more advanced configuration options.
