IMAP or POP - What am I currently Using? (Windows Users)

To check what sort of mail protocol you are currently using on Microsoft Outlook, please follow the below steps:

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Access the accounts settings page. This may be different, depending on what version of Outlook you have:
    • OLDER VERSIONS - From the Menu Bar, select the TOOLS drop down, then select EMAIL ACCOUNTS
    • NEWER VERSIONS - Click on FILE in the top left corner of outlook, then click the ACCOUNT SETTINGS button, and choose ACCOUNT SETTINGS from the drop down.
  3. From the list of accounts, double click on the account you wish to view.
  4. On the following screen, see the highlighted section, which shows the account type you are using, which will be either IMAP or POP.

For other mail clients, please view the appropriate setup guides to check which protocol you are using.
